About Cryptocurrency

It seems like you hear about it everywhere, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Etherium, and even Dogecoin... But what exactly is cryptocurrency and where did it come from?

Bitcoin 's beginnings are a bit mysterious. In October 2008, a white paper was published by "Satoshi Nakamoto" which is believed to be a pseudonym for the person or group who actually developed the concept. The paper described the bitcoin digital currency and was titled: "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System".

Bitcoin version 0.1 software was released on Sourceforge in 2009. Nakamoto created the website bitcoin.org, and continued to collaborate with developers until 2010. In mid-2010, Nakamoto handed over control of Bitcoin to Gavin Anderson and transferred the domains to other members of the Bitcoin community. This ended his involvement with Bitcoin.

There is still doubt about the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Other Cryptocurrencies

After the creation of bitcoin, a number of other companies and individuals began to develop their own cryptocurrencies. There are currently over 1,300 cryptocurrencies in existence.
